Cities » San Vito lo Capo
San Vito is a beautiful seaside resort situated in the middle of a bay on the western coast of the Gulf of Castellammare. It has been renowned for its fishing since the Roman times. Near its “tonnara” there are still traces of the tanks which were used for fish farming. The former white fishers’ houses have been now transformed in hotels, B&B, restaurants, hand craft shops or Gelaterie, but they have kept their typical Mediterranean originality in their shape, their bright white colour, their inner courtyard and their flowered bougainvillea invading their balconies The beach, with its white sand and its crystal clear waters, is one of the most beautiful beaches of the island. San Vito is also a very dynamic resort and organizes many festivals every year from the international kites festival at the beginning of May to the famous Couscous Fest on the third week-end of September during which many chefs of all the Mediterranean areas come with their most exotic recipes of couscous. This festival is also an opportunity for local producers of wine, Marsala, olive oil, cheeses, jams, sausages and all kinds of delicacies, to come and exhibit their products to the delight of all visitors. A walk in the beautiful natural reserve of the Zingaro (also accessible from Scopello) is a must. Its flowered paths lined with palms trees and bushes of herbs will lead you to beautiful small coves with turquoise waters.
